Life in the "Unit"

September 2004

Living in a motor home, particularly one that moves on a regular basis, is about two things: space and motion.  Space is a premium, especially with three adult people and a cat living in a 35-foot RV. On rainy days, The Ample Traveler© suspects that we know what it is like to live in a submarine.  Yelling "make a hole" is necessary at times to make it from the front to the back of the unit.  "Making a hole" is often a difficult maneuver.

The Ample Traveler© has the added burden of accommodating a fully operational multimedia workplace, including electric keyboard, three computers, two printers, sound equipment and digital photographic and video equipment. We needed to build a media station that not only was large enough to accommodate the equipment, but could do so in such a way as to protect that equipment when the vehicle was in motion.

So if you were wondering what else we did while hanging out in mostly mid-Missouri and why, after six weeks we didn't get a chance to visit more things, well, carpentry was a big part of our summer.

The great design from Steve and the hard work of all of us paid off.  The Ample Traveler© has become a fully functional multimedia mobile unit.  We, of course, have plans for improvements and expansions.  Stay tuned for the adventure on the road.
